Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture (Ref.: 201700877)

 

Applications are invited for tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in the Division of Landscape Architecture under the Department of Architecture, to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year appointment.

 

The Division of Landscape Architecture (DLA) is looking for a regional landscape scholar focused on landscape planning, infrastructure, and transboundary issues. Experience in research and teaching in East Asia and/or Southeast Asia is preferred as the DLA is looking to expand its work within these regions. The scholar’s academic strengths are expected to not only advance and enrich the teaching and scholarly research of the Division, but also to have a clear impact on societal conditions through: formulating development guidelines and policies for national and regional governments; undertaking landscape or planning projects for local communities; organizing international conferences or symposia to facilitate knowledge exchange; generating research publications; and curating exhibitions to raise public awareness of the anthropological, geopolitical, and ecological significance of the research topic. Teaching responsibilities will involve instruction in design studios, lecture and seminar courses in areas that support practice and design education for landscape architects. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Landscape Architecture or closely related field and a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture.  They should have demonstrable professional practice, teaching, and research experience in one or more of the following specialist fields: architecture, landscape architecture, or geography. Multidisciplinary, multi-scalar, and multimedia approaches in the applicants’ work would be of particular value. They should also have a strong record of research publication in prominent journals and in obtaining research grants. They should be able to show evidence of sustained teaching excellence and pedagogical innovation. A record of active engagement in the professional community is also preferred.

 

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical benefits.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
